Private Golf Estate

On the 13th of September 1973, Mr Louwtjie van Aswegen bought the land now known as Magalies Park Country Club on auction, and together with his wife, developed it into a Dairy Farm. The 1980s saw the booming of the Time Share resort business and he saw and seized the opportunity to do such a development. After many frustrations from state departments, Magalies Park Country Club was eventually established in 1986 boasting a nine hole golf course.

In the mid 1990s, the developer bought land from Sappers Club to enable him to develop the golf course into a full 18 hole course. Those who had timeshare at Magalies in those years would know that the 6 holes that were developed on this land had a workers settlement between holes number 6 and 7. This was always a cause of friction between in inhabitants and the golfers. The upside of this was that it compelled the developer to purchase that piece of land and move the workers to other premises. On the 20th of July 2001, Magalies Golf Estate was established. It again coincided with the increased demand in country living and golf estates, and the 59 erven were sold very quickly. Now almost 13 years later, there are only a few open stands and most residents are living here permanently.

Following on the success of Magalies Golf Estate, the Sappers Club embarked on a project to develop their own resort on what is currently known as Magalies River Club. Sadly for them, they ran into financial difficulties and had to sell the land. The predicament for Magalies Gold Estate was that whoever bought the land had to access this property via Longest Drive and Circle Road North, and in doing so creating a security risk and uncontrollable situation. Thus again a risk was turned into an opportunity when the developer bough this land and established Magalies River Club on the 2nd of December 2003 with its 70 erven. Building on Magalies River Club has progressed at a slower rate, probably because it coincided with the economic meltdown SINS 2007/2008, and currently almost 50% of the stands have been developed. Recently the developer embarked on the last phase of the development by erecting 12 townhouses on the land where the Sappers Club main building and restaurant once stood. Today Magalies Golf Estate and Magalies River Club are considered as a single entity. With same such a bushbuck and blesbok roaming freely on this almost 140ha property, together with the abundance of birdlife and all the facilities at Magalies Park Country Club available to residents, once can hardly think of a better place to live.
